Everton came from behind to defeat the Gunners 2-1. Martin Odegaard’s volley in first-half stoppage time put Arsenal ahead. However, Everton’s forward Richarlison de Andrade, who had two efforts ruled out for offside via VAR checks equalized with a 79th-minute header after Demarai Gray hit the woodwork.
Gray later secured Everton’s first win in nine Premier League outings courtesy of a strike in the second minute of time added on at the end of the 2nd half.

At the end of the match, Everton’s manager Rafael Benitez described the game as ‘perfect’.
“I think we saw the character in the first games (of the season) and today it was even better, in terms of two goals disallowed and the reaction of the team, the fans behind the team, everybody delighted at the end because of the great goal Demarai scored, and three points after that bad run,”.

So I think everything was, you can say, perfect, no? In terms of the players, the fans, the performance, and the final score.”
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta described his team’s performance as ‘not good enough
“I didn’t like (the first half performance),” said Arteta. “There was no penetration, no threat, totally the contrary of what we are trying to do. It wasn’t good enough.

“What I want is more from my team. Today we had the game under control and we have to find a way to win.

“In the Premier League when the game is there you have to kill it. When you have big chances, you have to put them in the net.”

That victory lifts Everton up to 12th in the table, giving them an eight-point cushion to the bottom three, while Arsenal remains 7th. The loss makes it two losses in a row, and three losses in four games, for Mikel Arteta’s side.
