Basketball Legend, Michael Jordan, has had his pair of sneakers sold for a record-breaking $1.47million, at the Sotheby auction for game-worn footwear on Sunday, 24th October 2021.
According to a statement by the Sotheby auction house, the autographed size-13 footwear was in overall good condition, which the Superstar gifted to Tommie Tim III Lewis, a ball boy for the Denver Nuggets during the 1984-’85 season.
“The most valuable sneakers ever offered at auction Michael Jordan’s regular-season game-worn Nike Air Ships from 1984, have just sold at $1,472,000 in our luxury sale in Las Vegas,” the statement read in part.
The market value of the sneakers skyrocketed amongst other items associated with Jordan, after the release of a documentary chronicling his saga with the Chicago Bulls called ‘The Last Dance’.
