NIMC Workers give Govt 21-Day Ultimatum as NIN Registration Resumes

Workers of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Monday 11th January 2021 resumed the registration exercise of the National Identity Number nationwide after a two-day warning strike.

President, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, NIMC Unit Mr. Lucky Asekokhai said workers of the commission suspended their two-day warning strike to give room for negotiating with the Federal Government.

According to Mr. Lucky Asekokhai, the resumption of NIN registration does not mean that the issues of concern have been settled. He added that the strike was suspended after the intervention of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami and as a result, the union and the government have agreed to meet on Tuesday, 12th January 2021 to address the issues.

Mr. Asekokha further stated that the commission has also started counting down on a 21 – day Ultimatum they issued to the management of the commission adding that if nothing is done before the expiration of the ultimatum, the strike will resume.
