WIZKID WINS AFRICAN ARTISTE OF THE YEAR AT APPLE MUSIC AWARDS


Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as WizKid has emerged as the African artist of the year at the 3rd annual Apple Music Award organised by the music streaming service.

In a press release, Apple music said the awards celebrate outstanding musical acts across five categories namely Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Top Song of the Year, and Top Album of the Year. According to Apple Music, winners were selected via a process reflective of Apple Music’s editorial perspective and global listening habit.

The music streaming service, acknowledged WizKid as one of Africa’s biggest crossover acts, having worked with Beyonce, Drake, Skepta, and Chris Brown, amongst others.
Apple music also cited his critically acclaimed and most commercially successful album ‘Made In Lagos,’ released In October 2020, and his hit song “Essence,” as reasons why the artiste was given the award.

In a statement acknowledging the awards, WizKid thanked Apple Music for the honour.
“Thank you to Apple Music for this award. It’s a blessing to get to do what I do, and I’m proud to be representing Africa.”
